Public Transport

 

Telephone Transwa on 1300 66 22 05 to make a booking on the AvonLink or the Prospector for you and /or your bicycle. The AvonLink commuter train travels to Perth every morning from Northam and back in the evening, Monday to Friday.

 

Transwa operates coach services between Northam and Perth every day of the week. Bicycles are allowed but with a limit of two per coach make sure you book well in advance.

 

Telephone Transperth on 13 62 13  for information about getting to some of the settlements on the Kep Track by bus. From Midland train station you can travel as far east as Wundowie with stops in Mundaring, Sawyers Valley, Mt Helena, Chidlow and Wooroloo. Bicycles are not allowed on metropolitan busses.

 

NOTE: There is no public transport system between Mundaring Weir and the town of Mundaring.

 

 

Safety and Common Sense

 

Be prepared

  • Leave your itinerary including an estimated return time with friends / family
  • While you can not rely on mobile phone coverage, ring 112 in an emergency. Firm up pick-up arrangements beforehand.
  • Defer your plans if extreme weather is predicted.
  • Take food, water and sun screen. Wear a hat and appropriate clothing including footwear.
  • Check your bike has off road tyres 
  • Animals (including dogs and horses) are not allowed closer to the weir than Firewood Road (approx 3 km from the weir) to protect the water’s quality.

 

Be courteous

  • Respect other people on the track. Cyclists use your bell to alert others.
  • Respect property adjacent to the Track. Take your rubbish with you. 

  

Be careful 

  • Wear a helmet when riding.
  • Cross roads with care.
  • Keep on Kep to avoid getting lost.
  • Take care on gravel and other loose surfaces.
  • Give snakes a wide berth.
